Kids, stay in school.

I’ve stumbled across another article ( clicky! ) by the same author who “discovered” why males play female characters. In this particular topic he gives his opinion about which games of the single player mode should become “MMOs.” Unfortunately, he has failed to find that one of the mentioned games in his article is already an “MMO” ( Dynasty Warriors BB ). With a simple Google search you can find this information.

There are a few specific questions I’d like to ask to all MMOsite “journalists.” Do you write articles as a gamer or an game analyst? Where are you getting your sources for certain articles? Are you even aware of the core game-play of the games you mention? Have you looked at other possible ideas that are out there done by other games before mentioning that “this” would be unique or explain why this would be a great idea and why it would be different from other games?

I’ll start from the middle of the article this time. I will not be touching on Dynasty Warriors section as there already is an MMO. This author just doesn’t know how to use Google.

This is a tricky one, but at the same time seems like a logical step for the franchise.

I am pretty sure they have already pitched this idea out. The reason they aren’t doing it is because it is very likely to be criticized heavily. Also, how would it be in anyway a good MMO? Unique selling point? What differs it from other MMOs?

Legend of Zelda as an MMO would ruin the entire series. I myself have never played a single Legend of Zelda game and would say this is an entirely bad idea. Legend of Zelda revolved around one character ( the hero ). Expanding this into an MMO wouldn’t every player become a hero? What about the sword? Would everyone be able to get the all mighty something sword that Link has?

The world of Zelda is perfect for an MMO. You already have many distinctly different races, all with their own places in the world and each one would be a blast to play. Want to play as Link? Choose the Kokiri race; start in the forest.

Indeed, but so is every other single player RPG game. In what way would it be a “bast” to play other races? Wouldn’t everyone want to be Link mostly? Also, again does everyone have the ability to get Link’s sword?

Let us move to BioShock.

There is a huge gap of untold story in the timeline of Bioshock also, which seems to me like a perfect place to slot in an MMO and flesh out the already amazing story further. All the elements are there, it would just be a matter of translating them from single player to MMO.

Yes there is. However, you still haven’t explained in what way could it be unique as an MMO. Turning this in to an MMO would be a call for disaster. Titling it as a “Just another Shooter MMO.” Just because it may seem to be a good idea doesn’t mean it will work even with proper design put into it. ( Speaking form school experience. )

To the author:

Stop saying “just a matter of translating from single player.” If you have proper ideas write it down and don’t just suggest it. I am sure a hundred has already though of this idea before you did. Ask yourself “why” didn’t they make this an MMO.

I am starting to get lazy to keep up with these articles that lack an understanding of game design. I’ll make a small effort to slap these people.
